My art is an extension of my spirituality, memories, and emotions. It is a very personal, meditative experience, enabling me to explore and express my Bhuddist beliefs through abstract colors and shapes. The main theme of my works is nature, which I use to express emotions or the unseen energy, dynamics, and thoughts of living things. Most of my pieces incorporate shapes and landscapes that are borne from my imagination. I’ve taken the abstract yet material forces of Earth(Ji), Water(Su), Fire(Hwa), Wind(Poong), Space(Gong)–the five fundamental elements of all creation–and harmonized them with conceptual images to express life in its colorful, vibrant scheme.
Currently, my artwork houses four rooms. The first room holds the magnificent, elementally Korean trees and mountains that I hold near and dear to my heart. The second room is filled with colors and shapes detached from reality, abstract. The third room nurtures nature, growing flowers and all things green. Lastly, the fourth room is the Mandalas–the universe. One can say that my focal pursuit is to fill each unique room with reflections of the seasonal waves, changes in the environment, and shifts within my spirit.
