My art is an extension of my spirituality, memories, and emotions. It is a very personal, meditative experience, enabling me to explore and express my Bhuddist beliefs through abstract colors and shapes. The main theme of my works is nature, which I use to express emotions or the unseen energy, dynamics, and thoughts of living things. Most of my pieces incorporate shapes and landscapes that are borne from my imagination. I’ve taken the abstract yet material forces of Earth(Ji), Water(Su), Fire(Hwa), Wind(Poong), Space(Gong)–the five fundamental elements of all creation–and harmonized them with conceptual images to express life in its colorful, vibrant scheme.

Currently, my artwork houses four rooms. The first room holds the magnificent, elementally Korean trees and mountains that I hold near and dear to my heart. The second room is filled with colors and shapes detached from reality, abstract. The third room nurtures nature, growing flowers and all things green. Lastly, the fourth room is the Mandalas–the universe. One can say that my focal pursuit is to fill each unique room with reflections of the seasonal waves, changes in the environment, and shifts within my spirit.

ag_artist_statement : Painting a series of work is meant that I do invent and crate something depends on environment or seasons. I start painting without sketch I just put my intuitional decision every moment on the brush by having only the images. I am just playing wit colors and shapes. The concept and motive of this work is mandala. The meaning of mandala is "a circular wheel full of the essence of the universe." in the sanskrit language. I am Buddhist and it is a Buddhist motive that may be related to my deep love of nature. But my drawings are made according to my intuition, not with any specific figurations so,various shapes to be filled in my paintings are geometrically unconventional in form and meaning. "Karma" in Buddhism is also projected in my works that I brush by present me is similar to the work which connected between the present and the future according to my Karma I have done in the past. In my drawing, all the elements in "the circle." are all different. None of them have the same shape or same color. As every universe is diverse include human. So I expressed my drawing so that viewers can feel beauty in the integrted images. All the elements in the circle are very complex, but I expressed overall image in a single line of color so that it can be seen simply. Complexity and simplicity are always together and everything comes to the midst of the principle of thesis-antithesis-synthesis, and the beauty is expressed.

Korean artist Bo Song expresses the vitality of life through her color palette, infusing every work with bright, unmodulated pools of color separated by thick, black lines, reminiscent of Fauvism and the works of Matisse. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Song lets her subject matter lead her through the image-making process, relying on intuition and spontaneity rather than meticulously-planned sketches. She often employs contradicting techniques; tight, meticulous brushwork conveys refinement and control, which she interrupts with the frenetic energy of loose strokes and spontaneously applied colors.

As a practicing Buddhist, Song incorporates themes of karma in her work, finding peace and comfort in the natural world. Every stroke comes from a place of love as she carefully renders the details of the Korean countryside. The artist reminds us of the power of immersing oneself in nature. Bo Song currently lives and works in Unjung-dong, Korea.
