About the artist
My work is a personal reflection of my life, memories, and the experiences that shape me. I use painting as a visual diary, capturing everyday moments, conversations with friends, and emotions that I want to preserve. I am interested in how ordinary experiences can become meaningful through art and how personal stories can connect with wider human experiences.
I come from Slovenia, a small country in Central Europe, and in this painting I explore the theme of Kurentovanje, a traditional Slovenian event that takes place at the end of winter. During this celebration, the Kurents are believed to chase away winter and bring the arrival of spring. As a child, my friends and I were always a little afraid of the Kurents because of their masks, loud bells, and mysterious appearance. However, they are not meant to represent fear—they are the ones who drive away winter and bring renewal. Through this painting, I wanted to capture this contrast between childhood fear and the deeper meaning behind the tradition, showing how something that once seemed frightening can become a symbol of hope, change, and new beginnings.
