My approach to painting is the same as my approach to food: I need variety. It needs to be colorful and pleasing to the eye. I like to paint still lifes because they are predictable, and they force me to make ordinary objects more extraordinary by drawing attention to them through color, texture, and line. At times, I push the limits of my imagination; at others, I simply paint what is already there.

I don't eat the same thing every day, and I don't feel the same way every day. For that reason, I don't limit my palette to just one approach or style. I have learned to be conscious of the colors and shapes around me and to bring what I see—or, at times, what I feel—to my canvas.
