About the artist
I grew up in the vast, cold landscapes of Northeast China, where long winters and shifting light shaped my sensitivity to atmosphere, stillness, and subtle change. This early experience continues to influence the way I perceive the world. I am drawn to the tension between outward calm and the quiet movements that exist beneath the surface.
Close observation and attention to small details have become ways for me to understand my surroundings and construct my relationship to the world.
My paintings are rooted in observations of everyday life, interiors, figures, objects, and familiar spaces, where imagination and reality gradually intertwine. The scenes may appear ordinary or recognizable at first glance, but closer looking often reveals slight inconsistencies, unexpected relationships, or hidden narratives. I am interested in how the arrangement of objects, light, color, and space can create a particular psychological atmosphere, allowing an otherwise familiar environment to feel subtly altered.
Through layering, repetition, and recurring visual structures, I explore how an image can unfold over time. Objects and spaces become more than descriptions of a place; they hold traces of memory, presence, and lived experience. Subtle shifts in light, atmosphere, and visual relationships allow the familiar to gradually take on a different emotional or psychological weight.
Curiosity and a sense of play remain central to my practice. Above all, I seek to create paintings that feel calm and open while retaining an underlying vitality, a space where viewers can slow down, look closely, and encounter something unexpected within the familiar.
