Diego Alcalde
My thematic focus and worldview center on the human being and their relationship with the surrounding environment, including nature, flora, and fauna. I explore how humans interact with, use, revere, admire, and protect the natural world.
Rivers, in particular, hold a significant place in my work, symbolizing transportation, migration, nourishment, and continuity. I also reflect on culture, vision, and the symbols that people inherit and adopt over time.
I internalize these elements and immerse myself in them before processing them both consciously and subconsciously. They are expressed through brushstrokes, textures, and colors that are not realistic but spiritual and symbolic.
I approach each subject with love, hope, and admiration for humanity, seeking to convey these qualities through movement and color. Childhood is another recurring theme, representing innocence and hope.
Animals appear as symbolic figures, each carrying its own meaning while adding a sense of playfulness. Water, finally, embodies flow, movement, and the essence of life.
