Donna Borgida
I am inspired by juxtaposition and gradation. I use layering, gradients, and projections to make opposites (in texture, technique, color) work together. Cohesion from chaos; calm born and developed through the layers. Over the years, I have conveyed these themes through a few mediums: acrylic, resin, and mixed media. Almost all of my works start with a base of acrylic on canvas - this is where the colors are born, mixed; this is where their story begins. For a few, the acrylic is also where they end. On others, I layer a thin coat of resin atop the canvas, creating a dimensional shimmer. In my most recent installment of work, I have been experimenting with mixed media attachments, which lend a more tangible physicality to each piece, a feeling of extension, of reaching further. When people see my work, I hope that they find a sense of peace in its overlapping nature. I hope that they feel the many differing facets of their lives as layers that work together instead of against each other - a construction of harmony.
