About the artist
Liz Obert is a lens-based artist based in Santa Fe, NM, and a Professor Emeritus at Linfield University.
Her current work reflects on mortality, the human condition, and our culture’s obsession with materialism. It explores the transience of our existence through our shared experiences with food, using imagery inspired by Spanish and Dutch paintings, with a touch of humor.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Recently, she won second place in ProfiFoto’s New Talent Award and had her work published and exhibited in Germany. In 2025, she won the 1839 Award for Photographer of the Year in Still Life. Recent exhibitions include Strata Gallery in Santa Fe, NM, the Surrealist Festival in Fréjus, France, the Atlanta Photography Group in Rebecca Morse Selects 2026, and the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, as the winner of the 1st-place prize in Still Life Photography.
Her work has been published in The Missouri Review, Slate, The Huffington Post, the cover of Oregon Humanities Magazine, and, most recently, Fractions Magazine.
