Insuk Shin

Insuk Shin

I am interested in the boundaries between living organisms, objects, and the systems we create around them. My work often begins with familiar animals or bodily forms and develops through questions about care, possession, memory, and perception. I primarily work with sculpture and mixed media, using materials such as polymer clay, found objects, plastics, mechanical parts, and fabricated elements.

My background in architecture influences the way I approach structure, scale, assembly, and spatial relationships. I often combine organic forms with artificial or mechanical elements, allowing the boundary between the natural and the constructed to become unclear.

Rather than presenting a fixed answer, I use my work to visualize questions. I want the objects I create to feel familiar at first, but gradually become ambiguous or unsettling. I am especially interested in the difference between wanting to care for something and wanting to possess it. I want viewers to leave my work with a question rather than a conclusion.
