Parvin Pooya

As an artist born and raised in Iran and now based between New York and Connecticut, my work explores the fluid intersections of immigration, identity, belonging, and Iranian culture and politics.

My practice is deeply informed by my lived experiences across both nations, as well as a lifelong fascination with theater and storytelling.

Like a weaver, I intertwine traditional influences with contemporary experimentation. This allows me to work across diverse media while drawing on the cultural associations of different artistic forms to reinforce the thematic concerns of my work.

Much of my painting is inspired by Persian poetry, reflecting Elaine Sciolino’s observation that, for Iranians, poetry is a powerful religion. Through this lens, my art serves as a visual narrative where heritage meets migration, and where ancient prose finds a modern voice.
