Olivia Janna Genereaux

Derived from the idyllic Green Mountains, rivers, and rural architecture, my home, nestled in the Granite State, is the bedrock of my work. I witness the herd of deer that frequent my yard, the traces of rabbits, foxes, and woodchucks. Birdsong awakens the gardens in the spring, while a single streetlight illuminates a sliver of my neighborhood when the moon sleeps.

My painterly compositions capture movement, unconscious of time. Each piece embraces the essence of the land I traverse, revealing aspects of the natural order of my surroundings. My art provides a respite where palette, structure, composition, line, and form coalesce, becoming an unfolding opportunity to engage with art and to find hope and solace.

Olivia Janna Genereaux received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1986 and her MFA from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University in 2014. Major exhibitions include Unabashed Joy at the Lebanon, NH Alliance for Visual Arts Gallery and Art Center in 2022.

She founded and directed the nonprofit Upper Valley Presents, where she designed and programmed her own arts education curriculum, The Art of Play, for over a decade. In 2024, she opened her gallery, Janna’s Gate, in White River Junction, Vermont.
