ag_artist_statement : Konstantina’s mixed media body of art straddles the boundaries between fantasy and reality, figuration and abstraction, thus aims to create a balance between the natural and the man-made. A paramount component of her innovative approach to art-making is the use of unconventional methods in order to define materiality, abstraction and play. Natural substances and resist techniques are the key to irresistible surface effects. Her latest works are widely influenced by the Japanese Wabi – Sabi aesthetics of the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete beauty of simplicity. The movement of the paint through the background and the figures echoes the action like trace memories or ghostly apparitions. As a passionate advocate for women’s dignity, in several cases Konstantina blended her own identity into the subject. That was her way to visually express her hidden roar of what is to be a woman in a “man’s world”. The “Soul of a Knight” series is an impressive statement of women’s empowerment and one woman’s contemplation of her life in art and a declaration of her own immortality.
