I was born in Valencia Spain in 1947 and arrived in New York City in 1949. As a young child I frustrated my teachers by refusing to color within the lines. I now know that was the start of my artistic career.
My work flows naturally out of daydreams and memories that are evoked while I sit by the ocean or in my garden. Like preliminary sketches, I transport these impressions onto the canvas and translate them in my personal language. True to my diverse upbringing and my love of travel, my paintings are vivid expressions of different cultures and sensations I experienced away from home. I don’t like to be too graphic or provide too many clues, however. I like to keep the mystery that abstraction can hold and let the viewers discover the meaning for themselves.
