As an artist I am on a path of continuous discovery. I love exploring new topics and playing with materials, colors, and forms. Inspiration can come from a song, a current event, or simply the beautiful nature that surrounds me. Being a former children’s book illustrator, I find that literature often ignites my creative spark. When I read a book, I feel the need to translate words and stories into a visual narrative. As I mold the paint with my fingers, brushes, palette knives, or any object that catches my eye, I create a space for the viewer to immerse themselves and get lost in a world of images.

ag_artist_statement : Artistic statement: "Art is experiment with the knowledge of the artistic process – the artist is always a researcher and discoverer." - Iduna Imiela -
ag_biography : Iduna Imiela was born 1978 in Berlin and grew up in Northern Germany. She studied illustration and painting at the Bildkunst Akademie Hamburg as well as art history at the University of Hamburg with a masters degree in 2008. The focus of her work has been on painting with acrylics. Since the beginning of 2021 she started also new series with texture works and Aquarell. 2021 she took part in an international group exhibition in Madrid and New York as well as in Art Innsbruck. 2022 she will participate in further group exhibitions and art fairs in Paris, Bordeaux, Madrid and Luxemburg. Her work is inspired by nature, inspired by colors of the seasons, inspired by material as well as in the artistic process. She lets herself guided through the artistic process while painting and trusts her intuition. Also she works since the beginning of 2021 on new textures, color gradients and surfaces as well as on forms and aesthetic experiences. She has been working in the artistic segment for twenty years now and the joy of reinventing, experimenting and creating art has never stopped and is constantly developing. In this portfolio for Agora Gallery, a selection of recent works from series that began in 2021 was made. Bright and colorful paintings with titles as "Landscape III" or "C.F.XIII/ Orange clouds". And two small format texture works. Autumn in- spired colors, one with the title "M.t. IX/Foliage II". For this year the artist plans to continue working intensively on the series she started in 2021.

If you could see the heartbeat of a hummingbird, what would it look like? Iduna Imiela imagines it something like her Hummingbird Heartbeat pictorializes: an expanding staccato rhythm of pinks and grays racing across the square canvas. When asked what inspires her, Imiela references culture – in this instance, a Katy Perry song – but also the natural world and literature. A bit of whimsy flavors Imiela’s canvases, an innocence perhaps captured from her previous occupation as a children’s book illustrator. Her abstracts as well as her landscapes have an innocence; unfiltered and unfettered the pieces play and shout like children in a schoolyard. #autumncolors (II) is dappled in space becoming sculpture-like in its dimensionality. The image created gives a sense of gazing into a puddle, the colors reflecting what might be foliage against a blue sky in muted greens and pinks. To get this specific texture, Imiela was experimenting with a household product, Spachtelmasse, or in English, spackle; Imiela is always discovering and exploring new ways to create. As pale blue as the daytime sky is in #autumncolors (II), Imiela can often be found looking toward the night sky holding her sense of awe and wonder which she translates onto the canvas.

Imiela was born in Berlin and currently resides in Hochdorf near Stuttgart.
