ag_artist_statement : I've always loved photography and anything that allowed me to use my imagination/creativity. As a child I would spend hours with my dad developing Black & White prints in the basement of our Indianapolis home. It was magical watching the image appear. Photography led to painting. Now, as a local artist, still in Indianapolis, I photograph and paint the beauty I see all around me. I am a Big Picture thinker. However, many of my favorite works of art are close-ups. These pieces remind me of all the small details that make up the much bigger picture.
ag_biography : Anne Chamness was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, and studied Fine Arts and Art Education at Indiana University. She worked as an art teacher at a local elementary school in her hometown, which is when she began to explore her own artist talents. Her work has been displayed in a few local galleries, but her true passion lies in creating gifts for special occasions, including weddings, graduations, a new home, etc. Anne works in both painting and photography, and draws inspiration from impressionist and contemporary art. However, her artist talents are not exclusive to fine art. She also restores houses with her family, and is part of the process from start to finish. Similarly to her process in painting or photography, she thinks big picture, but focuses in on the small details that make a piece of art beautiful. A truly dynamic creative, her imagination and artistic eye will take her far.
ag_influences : I grew up in the 70s. It was a time of great conflict with protest over Vietnam and a nightly count of our fallen soldiers. It was also a time of bright yellow smiley faces, plenty of flower images and most of all the running mantra of the desire for peace and love. Somehow I was able to see the beauty in the chaos and I believe that I still see that in my paintings today.
